3D vs PoV

Adam Walker So this is a short (but hopefully helpful … because who doesn’t make stereoscopic films on a daily basis) discussion of a couple of technical consideration with stereoscopic (3D) footage. ;-)

The Unwanted Fantasy Project

Aldrich Tangpos As an exercise, and because my thought processes got hacked by a trojan winter virus, I thought I should draw some inspiration from everyone’s favourite space-man-rocker, David Bowie, and do a random mash-up of phrases that I stole from the poor victims that surround me in the office. Little do they know I will use their thoughts in my rise to glory!!!

WTF is this? Click more to find out

WARNING: The following post may damage your logical thought processes!

Loving the Tiny Dragon and Youtube

Aldrich Tangpos Some people have asked WTF is the giant gold thing at the end of one of the Apple Man test animations. :? So we thought we should share a test animation of the “Tiny Dragon” on the awsHUB YouTube channel. I’m sure those who read this blog are familiar with YouTube. If not, seek medical advice, and then you need to visit here: www.youtube.com. See what awaits you in the amazing world of internet videos. 8-O

So we decided to upload the clip in HD as YouTube have recently started allowing users to upload their videos in HD quality. Yes that’s right, now you can wait even longer for a video to download… assuming you’re a quality nut who hates the dodgy quality of standard YouTube. :P So this blog is a combo of showing off the “Tiny Dragon” as well as sharing a tip about configuring YouTube quality settings. Yes and for those smarty pants out there it’s true: if the dragon is tiny, the Apple Man must be really tiny! ;)

De Proxy-nator

Aldrich Tangpos You know the saying “A picture tells thousand words,” well a proxy object is not like that. Haha. A proxy object is a reference for animators to work around in a scene. They aren’t created to look exactly like a final model, it’s just a representation of it. For example a car can be displayed as simple six side box, a line, even a plane with a picture added to it. The pros know a lot about it and if you’re a beginner then it’s something that you’ll find very helpful.

Even as Simple as a water bottle needs proxy love

Tips for php and mySQL

Adam Reed While working in server-side programming, (scripts that run on a internet server sending out data, rather than on the users local computer), we came across some interesting techniques which helped us improve our on-line database system, and speed up the incorporation of on-line game scores and user database accounts within our website. The following hints help shed light on just some of the issues we have encountered. :-)

  • mySQL ENUM & SET - Very useful data types in a mySQL database.
  • HereDoc - An incrediblily useful php method when working with html.
  • mySQL AS clause -Where A is B as X in Y while…. the joy of a mySQL query!
  • Injection Attacks - Data harvesting… be scared, be very scared!!!

Hope you find some of these links useful. :-)

Playing with Fire

Trent Leighton Recently at Adam Walker Film, we completed a 30 second TVC for Aurora (agency: Red Jelly). While that may sound simple enough, this TVC required something extra. The commercial was to illustrate the dangers of trees growing too close to power lines. That meant we would need to create lots and lots of fire. Under the direction of Red Jelly we needed to build an idealic rural Tasmanian landscape and then burn it! We required the full spectrum of fire from a couple of burning leaves, to a grass fire, to trees being engulfed, right up to a full fiery inferno. To accomplish this I used a 3ds max plugin called “FumeFX” which allows you to simulate fire based on real world parameters.

Laying out those Layouts

Aldrich Tangpos In any type of film, advertisement, documentary or video project, a director or client will always have a visual image of what the project should look like on screen. But the sad reality of it is, others involved can’t see it… unless you can read minds, like a ninja :D To allow others to see that vision (without going too far in the development) is to create something that we call a layout. For those who are obsessed with special features on DVD’s you’ll know what I mean when I say how important this stage of the development is.

Yes, such book does exist....

The Ideas Sketchpad

Aldrich Tangpos Alright, in my previous post I mentioned that I’d talk about skinning and the royal family for Daughter of God, unfortunately for you amazing readers out there I’ll leave that for the next one :-| This blog will be dedicated to my very important, ideas sketchpad… or graffiti book. When you’re someone like me (which I doubt unless it’s me 8O ) you constantly get sooo many random thoughts and ideas that the only way for me to remember them is draw, regardless what time of the day… there’s always that little thought of “what if?” or “imagine if this was…” or even “hmm a cooking ninja…” etc. Here are some scans from my sketchbooks.

Distractions is not an uncommon thing
