Loving the Tiny Dragon and Youtube

Aldrich Tangpos Some people have asked WTF is the giant gold thing at the end of one of the Apple Man test animations. :? So we thought we should share a test animation of the “Tiny Dragon” on the awsHUB YouTube channel. I’m sure those who read this blog are familiar with YouTube. If not, seek medical advice, and then you need to visit here: www.youtube.com. See what awaits you in the amazing world of internet videos. 8-O

So we decided to upload the clip in HD as YouTube have recently started allowing users to upload their videos in HD quality. Yes that’s right, now you can wait even longer for a video to download… assuming you’re a quality nut who hates the dodgy quality of standard YouTube. :P So this blog is a combo of showing off the “Tiny Dragon” as well as sharing a tip about configuring YouTube quality settings. Yes and for those smarty pants out there it’s true: if the dragon is tiny, the Apple Man must be really tiny! ;)

First-up the specs of the “Tiny Dragon” video we uploaded: Quicktime file (.mov) with a resolution of 1280 by 720, using the H264 codec, with a frame-rate of 25fps, with the 44k stereo audio encoded with AAC codec.

So when you embed YouTube videos you can decide (to some degree) which quality you want the viewer to see first. To do this you must add a unique code at the end of the video’s html link. For example using this code (fmt=18) it will allow you to view the video in high quality first. The codes are known at “Queries”, and are commonly used on internet pages. Here are some YouTube codes, showing the quality difference.

Note that the preview images displayed below all look the same, the same image is shown regardless of what quality setting you have it on. You have to press the ‘play’ buttons to see the difference.

Standard quality (no code)

High Quality (&ap=%2526fmt%3D18)

High Definition (&ap=%2526fmt%3D22)

Did you know there’s even a code to make your videos look worse? … We would advise not to use that one. Notice how gorgeous HD quality looks on your bright squarish screen. In the end, here at Adam Walker Film our goal is to always look absolutely gorgeous, in our projects and our physical appearance ;-) so from this day on our videos will be always viewed in HD. Finally, experience the magic of Adam Walker Film in true HD (unless you’re on dial-up)
