An Attractive Desk is a Good Desk

Aldrich Tangpos For those of you who work behind a desk, you’ll probably notice how boring your desk set-up is; papers here, pens there, coffee stains, etc. I’m sure those who realised how boring their desks are have already personalised their desk to make it look much more presentable, comforting and attractive… assuming your boss lets you :P Most people have pictures of loved ones and family (which is quite magical), or decorations around their computer screens to look artistic but here at Adam Walker Films, we have toy figures! And other things… that you’d want to know :D …or not.

Imagine if they could think..

There’s no real meaning to the figures we have on our desks, Adam basically gave us a few toys and we just added them to our little army. Of course they aren’t all random, each toy is there because we either like it, it shows meaning or because we had no choice haha! One would assume having toys all over the place would be pointless, but it all depends on the particular toy. I sometimes use them as reference, like on my desk I have this detailed Spiderman toy that has these over the top muscles on him. Of course they aren’t meant to look realistic but the over the top detail makes it easier for me to identify a particular muscle I plan to draw, model or even animate.

See, learning shouldn’t be restricted to a computer screen :P Adam has this small little wooden figure where you can rotate each limb based of that of a human. No, he doesn’t display it or pose it on his computer desk, (it actually lays hidden in a little box) but is a good example of using things outside the computer screen to help you learn and get better results. They are easily accessible and are also good to fill in time, like that 5 min wait for something, e.g. wait for coffee.

One day here at AWF we expect a massive toy fight....no

Unfortunately I can’t think of much more to write on this subject, maybe it’s worth mentioning if you’re having trouble trying to creating the perfect sized limbs for a female, the toys would be a good point of reference… although there are other sources that would probably help better haha not that I know of :)
((ewh! -Jordan))

Another thing worth mentioning is that most film industries use clay models for character meshes. Yes they do the tedious task of creating, by hand, a fully detailed character or object for a film. These things are never full sized, most of them are much smaller than their realistic counterpart. So you can imagine how much attention to detail these gifted artists mold into each creation, plus every tiny detail is vital for the 3d artists who eventually scan the clay model into the computers so they can skin and animate it.

P

Well there’s a little insight on the movie making business for ya ;) Next blog I’ll talk about something extremely vital in the pre-production of any movie…yes, that’s right, making unbelievably awesome coffee! Not really :P you’ll have to stay tuned to find out what.
