CICDAF 07 Pics
Today I ran into an old uni lecturer who asked about how the recent (not really) festival trip to China went, so I thought I should share some of the happy snaps of the trip from my phone.
Apologies to the fantastic people that I meet of whom I don’t have pics of here (Jean-Julien, Fursy, the-Iranian-boys (Behzad, Hossein, Morteza), Min, et al… )… but you’re probably relieved.

Bullet train from Shanghai to the airport - 431 km/h doesn’t sound like much - but make sure you try it if you go to Shanghai, quite amazing, everything out the window is just a blur.

The Bund (the old English area of Shanghai) at night - very pretty.

Cosplay - no wonder I love China!
Apparently this was promoting a special regional patch for “World of Warcraft”. This was inside the game expo part of the festival - there was even a performance that was a bizarre fusion of traditional Chinese opera and Final Fantasy - very unusual.

One of the sightseeing stops - this particular city is described as the eastern Venice - we were having punt drag races - unfortunately our gondolier wasn’t as fast as theirs!

One of the judges - Paul Driesssen - with his adorable partner - “I think they are starting to relax”…

The Bund in Shanghai - featuring super sci-fi-space-needle! I was hoping to go up it, but with the Chinese National Day holiday - it was very incredibly busy (and one of the judges was apparently afraid of heights - and to preserve respect we couldn’t go up
).

Probably drunk - but no wonder the Chinese ladies thought I was charming. Maybe they were just staring at the blond hair.

Some old Chinese building - floss, but looks pretty through the lens of the phone. Part

A really old street in one of the cities we visited - approx 600 years - but I was probably drunk, so don’t take my word for it

My translator, Raoul, a fantastic guy (who loves Kevin Rudd!) - who only disappointed me by not getting me the twin-pig-girlfriend-alert-mobile-phone-alert-thingy that he promised

The crowd outside the 2nd (or maybe 3rd) opening ceremony - it case you were wondering, I was very “high-roller” while walking the red carpet - no swearing or shouting at all

Uldrich from Hungry - perhaps the driest (humour) that I meet at the festival, I hope to meet him again soon. An experimental animator, unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to see his films.

Uzi - yep like the gun - my bestest friend while in China and a fantastic Swedish animator / producer, check out his website
Well that is about it. One word of advice is (apparently everyone knows this - but didn’t care to mention it to me), don’t get a foot massage in a Shanghai hotel - sure the massage is good - but it is all about “upgrading” the service!
