Storyboarding Time!
We had a concept artist come into the studio this week, drawing designs and ideas for ‘Daughter of God’(working title). Considering how early the development is, it’s always nice to have a visual idea of what to expect from a short.
We’re going to use these drawings as a reference for early scene designs, environment sets and so forth, so we never expect the final design to look quite like the drawings.
I started working on the storyboard and as fun as you might think it sounds, it’s actually quite painful to the hands and eyes, especially after ninja training, haha! On one day in particular I had been drawing all day and when I went for a break I almost passed out in the toilets haha! Just remember - breaks are good
With the storyboards, I then go through every sequence one by one (we now have a treatment of the short) once I finish a sequence I then show Adam and we then go through each drawing and make alterations to best suit Adam’s vision. For me, storyboards are so important, especially when you start storyboarding action sequences which I’m trained to do
But be careful if you lose control it can get messy, not just storyboard wise but your desk too… so many rubber bits.
In the end I managed to draw three times the number of storyboards as for Sam and Piccolo - obviously it’s way too much, plus when all stacked up it looks like a bible, haha! At this stage we gather around as a group and go through the sequences and change it so that it’s easier to develop, stayed under budget and accessible to the audiences…that’s right you…. and even your friend over there! ![]()
