Blowing up cloth

Adam Reed
Cloth, a 3ds Max simulation modifier, was the obvious choice for simulating a hulking dollar sign tearing through its clothes. :-) Tasmanians would be familiar with the resulting TVC, for those that aren’t - go here (sorry not a permalink) for a web resolution version of the animation.

Beauty pass:

Back in bedlam

Trent Leighton Hey this is Trent, you’re reading my first and possibly last blog ever. :D I previously worked at Adam Walker Film until the end of 2006, but left due to creative differences. Today I rejoined the team to work on a cool new film project with the dodgy name “Daughter of God”. The film itself, while in the extreme early stages, looks really promising. So things at the studio seem pretty much the same as I remember them. Except now I’ve got the worst desk spot in the room and the oldest keyboard and mouse still in use. Anyway, as to what I will be doing this year, I used to be almost exclusively a rigger/character animator, but I’ll be mixing it up with some modeling and scene management. Unfortunately my first job is to model a baby’s dummy, following that it will be a bottle and rattle. Its not very exciting stuff, partially a learning exercise, but the finished product will go on Turbosquid (a website for selling 3d content). So as enjoyable as I’m sure this is to read I should get back to work. See you next time (or not). ;D

A new world begins! - well at least pre-produciton

Adam Walker We have started a new studio project, entitled (working) “Daughter of God” (or maybe “Daughter of the Gods” or strictly speaking “Daughter of god” - it is a multi-deity religion). It is a short film that will evolve into a whole collection of narratives and creations.

Perhaps, a major motivation driving this project is its difference from our last big gig - “Sam and Piccolo”. It’s quite different to “Sam and Piccolo” (SAP - for those that worked on it) for several key reasons - a film that has a very low technological threshold, a story that creates a world which will continue to evolve, and a narrative driven by direct action.

By technological threshold, I am referring to the fact that almost every shot in SAP had cloth, hair and environmental simulations, the end result of which was that there was an innate hesitation to change shots that were completed, even if they didn’t work as well as initialy hoped - basically because of the sheer magnitude of the work that reworking it would require.

I am hoping Briony will bring to this a humanity and sensitivity that is dynamically complemented by the action that other team members can bring.

Here is a thumbnail of a rough sketch for the armoured juggernaut.

A Testudo soldier

Big inspirations for this one:

It is simple straight-forward and brutal. Hopefully you will enjoy being engaged by it when it’s completed.

Piccolo’s Adventure - Design part 1

Adam Reed Today I want to talk a bit about “Piccolo’s Adventure”. :-) You’ve all probably heard of our film “Sam and Piccolo”, which was finalized within the studio a while ago now, however, if you don’t know what I am talking about, jump online and check out the “Sam and Piccolo” trailer at samandpiccolo.com, there are also some very interesting development notes and extra interactive content for you to investigate. :-)

Arcade Trap - Some Crazy Footage!

Aldrich Tangpos Hey my name is Aldrich (also known as Ninja due to my amazing ability to do cartwheels without moving) and I do animations for Adam Walker Film. Today we just finished up filming the Studio Tour for the Arcade Trap DVD, mind you we had no scripts or storyboards to guide us on filming, apart from the idea to make it very wacky and silly.
